The Belmopan Youth Climate Action Fund (BYCAF) is an initiative of Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Belmopan City Council that channels micro-grants directly to young innovators who want to tackle climate change at the neighbourhood level. Each award is worth up to BZD 10,000, and 17 grants will be distributed city-wide in 2025.

Projects must be designed and led by people 15 to 24 years old and must take place inside Belmopan.
The programme’s goal is simple: equip youth with resources, mentorship, and a public platform so that creative, community-based solutions can take root and inspire others across Belize.
BYCAF offers financial support for youth-led environmental projects that create measurable community impact. Below is a quick summary of available grant options and what they include.

YES raised awareness about climate change and youth advocacy by engaging 24 students in forums, social media campaigns, and a recycled art installation over two months.
This project transformed the school into a sustainability model with an edible garden, seed library, medicinal herb patch, and campus recycling program.
This project created two solar-powered metal collection frames for recycling plastic bottle stoppers, involving primary school students in both collection and environmental education. Data was gathered for analysis, and a QR code was used to share project info with the public.
The symposium brought together UB students, high schoolers, and youth organizations for workshops, expert panels, and a climate solutions fair. It promoted sustainable practices and inspired practical environmental action.

The Belmopan Youth Climate Action Fund supports youth groups with up to $10,000 BZD to implement environmental projects. From edible gardens to butterfly habitats and anti-littering campaigns, these youth-led actions are creating real change in Belmopan. Projects are selected through an open application process and supported with funding, mentorship, and training.
The Belmopan Youth Climate Action Fund supports youth-led climate solutions through funding, mentorship, and community-driven action. Our mission is to empower the next generation of environmental leaders.
